Early diagnosis of OSCC can provide early treatment and increase the survival rate. Recently, the level of salivary biomarkers has been studied for the early diagnosis of different cancers. This study aims to assess the Zinc Finger protein 510 (ZNF510) concentration, a novel biomarker for the diagnosis of OSCC in early stages, in salvia of patients with OSCC and healthy individuals as Methods & Materials: In this study conducted in 2019, 21 OSCC patients and 21 healthy individuals participated and their unstimulated saliva were collected by the spitting method. The ZNF510 concentration was determined using the ELISA technique. All statitical analyses were performed in SPSS software, version 23. The significance level was set at 0.05 for all tests. Findings: The mean of ZNF510 protein was significantly higher in OSCC patients than in healthy subjects (P=0.019), but after considering age as a confounder variable, the difference was not significant (P=0.090). Moreover, in patients with OSCC, the mean of ZNF510 in those with grade II lesion was significantly higher than in those with lesion grade I (P=0.001). Conclusion: Age has an effect on the ZNF510 concentration in saliva. Therefore, further studies by consideration of age factor and using larger sample sizes are recommended.
